First Tutorial

Evening everyone

This week has been a quite one on the cake front.  I have been with the proper job in Ireland so unable to make to many cakes.

So I decided whilst I was in a hotel over night a little lonely and bored I would do a tutorial of some of the images form the first cake I ever made!  A tatty teddy cake for my daughters christening.

This cake took 8-9 hours to make over a long lovely day in May 2012.  I really loved making it and it was this cake that seen me on my journey to really enjoying making cakes.

I dont believe the finished cake was quite the shape i wanted but for my first cake i was just made up!....as you can imagine no one was allowed to eat it and instead we just looked at it for 4 weeks lol.

This was the finished bear, cupcakes and cake pops for the big day.

Well time to go finish this weeks cake

Have a great weekend

The Christening Cake

So its the start of May 2013, our great friends ask us to be god parents!! eek! what is wrong with these crazy people!  us two?  well obvioulsy i burst in to tears with the emoition of it all, and am sure the hubster was about to but well he didnt...i think i am not sure i couldnt see through my own state!

anyway, we get home, clearly still shocked that someone has CHOOSEN us to be god parents and panic sets in...ohh F%%K they have asked me to do the cake...clearly it has to be amazeballs!

so i start the research, i really wanted to do a gravity defying cake, something that really challenged me as a cake maker and made people think wow!  but after reviewing what i needed to make such a cake...i.e. loads of tools and wood....and lets face it i did 3 years of wood work in school and just about made a pencil holder! creating a stand to carry a cake wasnt going to happen quickly!

i decided on a design with my great cakey mate Lady B, and the week before the big event i was chilled and ready to rock!

Cake baked, am ready to go.  Cake covered,  am convicenced it is shocking!  I watch it for 24 hours before deciding nope, not good enough.  I strip the cake down.  Rescue the top tier and put to one side.

I re-buttercream the bottom and middle tier and go back into the living room to see my 2 year old has decided she is the next up and coming cake artist in the house and my  top tier is covered in holes and some of my flowers from a previous cake..i turn round to tell her off and am face to face with a smurf!  yes she found the blue food colouring and my child is now blue!!!!!!

The drama and chaos, its 6pm, christening in what 14 hours, I have a blue smurf for a kid, no fondant and a cake design which just isnt sitting right and a giggling hubby.....mmmm not impressed.com

time to get serious.....i google a few designs and find a great little tutorial

http://cakejournal.com/tutorials/how-to-make-a-five-petal-fantasy-flower/

i make one in blue and just love it, within a few hours i have 12 flowers in four colours and a cake all finished.  whoop whoop!!!

ill not go on about the panic then, will they like it, will they not?  i love the couple but really wasnt 100% sure what they would love and I wanted it to be perfect.

They loved it, guests loved it and the reviews from people at the party where fantastic :)

new to blogging

Hello everyone,

I plan to blog on my journey into the world of making cakes and chocolates.  I hope to provide an insight into my journey which will provide you with an understanding of the enjoyment, difficulty, stress and excitement of creating a cake.

I will hopefully have the time to review products and maybe head out on a cake crawl!

So before I start
